Clifton Basses & Guitars is a South East London based one man lutherie, specialising in the design and manufacture of electric stringed instruments.
Output has currently dropped to one or two instruments per year as Mo gradually retires from active service and spends a lot of time in SW France. He does, however continue to work when in London - mainly through the winter months and would be glad to hear of any ‘projects’. If you can’t find an instrument with the specification you need, Mo can probably design & make it or give advice on the way forward.
Mo Clifton specialises in designing and making bass guitars and upright basses but he has also produced several guitars, cellos, a solid bodied saz, a mandolin and various 'gizmos' to solve particular problems.
Over the past 28 years, Mo has made more than two hundred instruments for many fine musicians and has repaired and set up more than two thousand. Several ‘famous’ customers use Clifton instruments but are not mentioned here for fear of omission. Mo services the needs of many of the guitarists and bassists at the Trinity College of Music at Greenwich and has a good working relationship with local guitar teachers and shops.
Mo has played bass with several bands over the years. The current one is a Rock & Roll outfit called No Man’s Band. Check out the site if you’re interested.
