The original Clifton Downright Bass Guitar was designed in the late 1980s as a 36 inch scale five string.
Most production 5 stringers at that time had a standard 34 inch scale which usually tended to sound a bit 'plonky' on the B string.
The extra 2 inches gave more tension which resulted in a better defined note and, with the addition of a steel reinforced neck, made a bass with a sound which belied its compact body size.
The headless design was used to improve balance, both physically and visually.
Fitted with custom design Kent Armstrong pickups, the Downrights are available fretted or fretless, active or passive from £1900
